Mental Prep

What happens before the race matters just as much as what happens in the water. Mental clarity and intention set the tone.

Visualize your race. Every wall, breakout, and stroke count
Set a tactical plan (not just "go fast")
Use breathing techniques to stay calm under pressure

Pacing By Distance

Not all races should feel the same. Here’s how to pace smarter by event:

Sprint Events (50/100):
Explosive start, max effort
Don’t "build into" the race, it’s go time from the start
Focus on stroke rate and clean transitions (turns, breakouts)

Middle Distance (200–500):
Front-end control, back-end speed
Negative splitting or even pacing is ideal
Stick to your stroke rhythm, don’t burn out too early

Distance (800/1500):
Consistency is king, find your pace and stay locked in
Use walls to build momentum
Don’t surge too early, save your push for the final 10–15%

1️⃣ Focus on an explosive, streamlined entry
2️⃣ Get into your dolphin kicks quickly
3️⃣ Stay underwater until you slow, don’t pop up too soon

🔁 Transitions (Turns & Breakouts)
1️⃣ Clean turns = free speed
2️⃣ Don’t rush your breakout, time your first stroke
3️⃣ Push off hard and hold your streamline

🏆 The Finish
1️⃣ Know your stroke count to the wall
2️⃣ Don’t breathe the last few strokes (yes, even if it’s hard)
3️⃣ Extend fully, finish aggressively
